Retroid Pocket 5, Flip 2 and 6 in India: Price, How to Buy

Retroid Pocket 5, Flip 2 and 6 in India: Price, How to Buy

Quick answer: the Retroid Pocket 5 is about ₹38,400 on Amazon.in and the Flip 2 about ₹44,600. The faster Pocket 6 comes from Amazon US, at about ₹30,200 with duty if it’s priced at Retroid’s $244.

The Retroid Pocket 5 is the easiest Retroid to buy in India, because Amazon.in lists it and it reaches you in a few days. Retroid has no Indian distributor, so Amazon is how most people here get one, either from Amazon.in or from Amazon US.

Three models are worth your money: the Pocket 5, the clamshell Flip 2 and the newer, faster Pocket 6. All three are Android handhelds with the Play Store, and they’re very good with older consoles up to PS2 and GameCube. Emulators are ordinary software, and a Retroid is a lovely way to play games you own and homebrew. Below is what each costs here, how to buy it, and which one I’d pick.

Retroid Pocket price in India

Retroid prices its handhelds in dollars on its own store: $179 for the Pocket 5, $189 for the Flip 2 with the Snapdragon 865, and from $244 for the Pocket 6. At about ₹94.5 to the dollar, that’s roughly ₹16,900, ₹17,900 and ₹23,100. Personal imports pay about 31% in duty and IGST, so a Pocket 6 at $244 comes to about ₹30,200 delivered.

Amazon.in lists the Pocket 5 (8GB/256GB) at about ₹38,400 and the Flip 2 at about ₹44,600. That’s more than the dollar price plus duty, and what you get for it is Indian delivery in days and Amazon’s easy returns. The Pocket 6 is on Amazon US, and that listing ships to India. Amazon US adds the duty to the checkout total.

Retroid Pocket 5

The easy buy: PS2-capable, a 1080p AMOLED screen, and at your door in days from Amazon.in.

Pros

  • 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED screen
  • Snapdragon 865 handles PS2 and everything older
  • Full Play Store, so Android games and streaming apps work too
  • Listed on Amazon.in

Cons

  • The Snapdragon 865 is an older chip
  • Amazon.in price is well above Retroid’s $179
  • Retroid is phasing it out in favour of newer models

The Pocket 5 is a 5.5-inch slab with an AMOLED screen and a Snapdragon 865. The chip isn’t new, but it’s comfortable with PS2 and below, and because it runs Android with the full Play Store, it doubles as a little device for native Android games and streaming apps.

Retroid cut its price to $179 and has said the Pocket 5 is being phased out, so this is the last of it. The Amazon.in listing is the 8GB/256GB version. At about ₹38,400 it costs more than an import at Retroid’s price would, but you don’t wait weeks and returns are simple. If you’d rather have the newer chip for less, look at the Pocket 6 below.

Retroid Pocket Flip 2

The clamshell. The screen folds shut, so it can ride loose in a bag.

Pros

  • Folding design protects the screen
  • Android Authority praised the display and the PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast performance
  • 5,000 mAh battery that the same review called excellent
  • 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED, like the Pocket 5

Cons

  • Cramped controls
  • Small, high-set sticks are poor for shooters
  • The priciest of the three on Amazon.in

The Flip 2 is for someone who throws a handheld in a bag and doesn’t want the screen scratched. Android Authority liked its display, battery and performance with PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast games. It didn’t like the controls, which are cramped, with small sticks set high up. If you play shooters or have big hands, get a slab instead.

It comes in two versions, and the one to buy has the Snapdragon 865 with 12GB of RAM. The cheaper Dimensity 1100 version with 8GB is the one Android Authority advised against. Check the chip named on the listing before you order. Like the Pocket 5, Retroid is phasing the Flip 2 out.

Retroid Pocket 6

My pick. The fastest Retroid, and the best value if you can wait for an Amazon US delivery.

Pros

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a cooling fan
  • 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED at 120 Hz
  • Retro Dodo scored it 8.4/10: PS2 at 1.5x to 2x, GameCube at 3x, Dreamcast at 4x
  • Hall sticks, analog triggers and good buttons
  • Android 13 with the full Play Store

Cons

  • Switch emulation is buggy
  • About 2.5 to 3 hours in high-performance mode, and the fan is audible
  • Comes from Amazon US, so 10 to 15 days to arrive

This is the one I’d buy. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a big jump over the 865 in the other two, and Retro Dodo praised its performance for the money along with the 120 Hz screen and the buttons. It ran PS2 at 1.5x to 2x resolution and GameCube at 3x in that review. Against a 6,000 mAh battery, Retro Dodo measured about 4.5 hours of mixed play, and it charges at 27 W over USB-C.

It has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage plus microSD, and weighs 320 g. Switch games are hit and miss: Retro Dodo and Notebookcheck both reported bugs, so buy it for PS2, GameCube, Dreamcast and PSP and treat anything newer as a bonus. Retro Dodo’s one warning is worth repeating: if you already own a recent Android gaming handheld, this won’t feel like much of an upgrade.

How to buy a Retroid Pocket in India

Option 1: Amazon.in

Amazon.in lists the Pocket 5 and the Flip 2. You get delivery in a few days, an Indian invoice and Amazon’s normal return window. It costs more than importing, but there’s nothing to set up.

Option 2: Amazon US

This is how I’d get the Pocket 6. Here’s how an order goes:

  1. Set your delivery address on Amazon.com to your Indian address. The product page then tells you straight away whether that listing ships to India.
  2. Compare the price with Retroid’s own $244 for the Pocket 6, and pick the offer closest to it.
  3. At checkout, Amazon adds shipping and an import fee deposit. The total on that screen is what you pay.
  4. When the parcel reaches India, the courier sends an SMS and an email with a KYC link. On my orders that was Aramex. Upload your Aadhaar or PAN and that step is done.
  5. The handheld reaches your door in about 10 to 15 days from the order.

If the US page says it can’t ship to your address, use the Amazon.in listing instead. Every step is in how I buy gadgets from Amazon US. Retroid also sells from its own store, which ships from China; email [email protected] about delivery to your Indian address before you order there.

Setting it up in India

These are Android devices, so setup is like a new phone. Sign in with your Google account and the Play Store follows your Indian account, with Indian apps and prices. Native Android games and streaming apps install as normal.

All three charge over USB-C, so any Indian USB-C charger works and there’s no plug adapter to think about. The Pocket 6 takes up to 27 W. Storage fills up fast with PS2 and GameCube games, so add a microSD card. The fast cards in my microSD picks for the Switch suit a Retroid just as well. For long trips, any of the laptop power banks I’ve listed will keep it going.

Alternatives you can buy in India

If you want PC games rather than older consoles, the Steam Deck OLED is about ₹1,00,000 on Amazon.in and plays your Steam library. For Nintendo’s own games, the Nintendo Switch 2 is about ₹60,000 on Amazon.in.

If you only play Game Boy to SNES games, you don’t need a Snapdragon at all. Retroid’s own Pocket Classic is $99, and there are simpler retro handhelds on Amazon.in in my best gaming devices in India list. My full ranking of handhelds is in best handheld gaming consoles in India.

Warranty and support

Retroid has no service centre in India. An Amazon-fulfilled order from Amazon.in or Amazon US gets Amazon’s normal return window, so a faulty unit goes back the usual way. Retroid’s own store gives a 15-day refund window, with the buyer paying return postage.
