Fire TV Cube in India: Price and Is It Worth Buying

Fire TV Cube in India: Price and Is It Worth Buying

Quick answer: Amazon launched the Fire TV Cube in India at ₹13,999, and it’s listed on Amazon.in. It’s worth buying for hands-free Alexa and the HDMI input, not for a better picture than a Fire TV Stick 4K Plus.

The Fire TV Cube in India is Amazon’s most capable streaming box, and on paper it does nearly everything: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6E, Ethernet, an HDMI input and hands-free Alexa through its own mic and speaker. It still runs Fire OS, so Kodi and Stremio sideload on it like they always have.

Whether it’s worth the money comes down to two features, not the picture. Below is what the Cube costs here, who should buy it over a Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, how to set it up with a set-top box, and what to get instead if you only want better picture and sound.

Fire TV Cube price in India

Amazon launched the third-generation Fire TV Cube in India at ₹13,999, and Amazon.in is where I’d buy it. The price moves with Amazon’s sales, so open the listing for today’s number. Other Indian online stores have listed the same Cube anywhere from about ₹9,500 to ₹21,000.

Importing makes no sense for this one. The Cube sells for around $200 in the US, which is about ₹18,900 at ₹94.5 to the dollar. Add roughly 31% for customs duty and IGST and an Amazon US order lands near ₹24,800, well above the Indian launch price.

Fire TV Cube (3rd generation)

The best box for an Alexa home or a TV with a set-top box plugged in. For picture and sound alone, a cheaper stick does the same job.

Pros

  • Hands-free Alexa through a built-in mic and speaker
  • HDMI input for a set-top box or console
  • Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG at up to 4K 60 fps
  • Ethernet, USB-A, an IR extender port and Wi-Fi 6E
  • Fire OS, so sideloading works

Cons

  • No DTS or TrueHD passthrough
  • Picture and sound are no better than the much cheaper Fire TV Stick 4K Plus
  • Sometimes doesn’t switch into Dolby Vision on its own
  • No HDMI cable in the box

Inside is an octa-core 2.0 GHz chip with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. Amazon called it the fastest Fire TV it had built when it launched the Cube in India. The bigger difference is what’s around the chip. Alexa listens through the Cube’s own mic and speaker, so you can ask for a show, a cricket score or the volume without finding the remote.

The HDMI input is the part I’d pay for. Plug your Tata Play or Airtel set-top box into the Cube and Alexa can switch to it by voice, which cuts the number of remotes on the table. The IR extender port lets the Cube control older gear that doesn’t understand HDMI commands.

Now the honest part. What Hi-Fi tested the Cube and found its picture and sound no better than a much cheaper Fire TV stick. It also noted that the Cube sometimes doesn’t switch into Dolby Vision by itself; picking Dolby Vision in the display settings sorts that out. And there’s no HDMI cable in the box, so have one ready.

Fire TV Cube vs Fire TV Stick 4K

This is the comparison most people are really making. The Fire TV Stick 4K Plus costs about ₹5,500 on Amazon.in and has the same Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Atmos support. The Cube adds power, built-in Ethernet, an HDMI input and hands-free Alexa. If you won’t use those, the stick gets you the same picture for well under half the money.

Fire TV Stick 4K SelectAbout ₹4,000No (adapter)NoNoNo

One more thing separates Amazon’s devices now. The Cube, the 4K Plus and the 4K Max run Fire OS, which lets you sideload apps. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select and the newer Fire TV Stick HD run Amazon’s Vega OS, which doesn’t. Amazon has said future Fire TV sticks will run Vega OS, and it will keep updating the 4K Plus and 4K Max on Fire OS until 2030. I’ve covered the two 4K sticks in Fire TV Stick 4K Plus vs Select.

How to buy the Fire TV Cube in India

Option 1: Amazon.in

Amazon sells its own Cube here, so this is the easy route. You get delivery in a few days, an Indian invoice and Amazon’s normal return window. Watch for Amazon’s big sales, since Fire TV devices are usually part of them.

Option 2: Amazon US

I order plenty of streaming gear from Amazon US, but for the Cube it costs more than buying here. If you still want to compare, this is how an order goes:

  1. Set your delivery address on Amazon.com to your Indian address. The product page then tells you right away whether that listing ships to India.
  2. Pick an offer near the usual $200 price.
  3. At checkout, Amazon adds shipping and an import fee deposit. The total on that screen is what you pay.
  4. When the parcel reaches India, the courier sends an SMS and an email with a KYC link. On my orders that was Aramex. Upload your Aadhaar or PAN and that step is done.
  5. The box reaches your door in about 10 to 15 days from the order.

If the US page says it can’t ship to your address, use the Amazon.in listing instead. The full walkthrough is in how I buy gadgets from Amazon US.

Setting it up in India

Sign in with your Amazon.in account and the Fire TV app store shows Indian apps: Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, SonyLIV, ZEE5 and YouTube. Kodi and Stremio sideload the usual Fire OS way; my Kodi, Stremio and Nuvio guide walks through it.

Buy an HDMI cable with the Cube, since there isn’t one in the box, and a second if you’re running a set-top box into the HDMI input. My premium HDMI cable picks cover both. Connect the set-top box to the Cube’s HDMI input and the Cube to the TV, and Alexa can switch between them by voice.

Place the Cube where its mic can hear the room, on the TV unit rather than tucked behind the panel. If your TV is on the wall, a shelf below it works; my TV wall mount picks leave room for the cables. Use the Ethernet port if the router is close. And if your TV supports Dolby Vision, set it in the display settings so the Cube doesn’t drop back to HDR10.

Alternatives you can buy in India

The Fire TV Stick 4K Plus is the obvious one. About ₹5,500, the same HDR formats and Atmos, Fire OS for sideloading, and updates until 2030. Get it unless you want the Cube’s extras.

The Google TV Streamer costs about ₹14,000 on Amazon.in, close to the Cube’s launch price. It has the same four HDR formats, Gigabit Ethernet and Android 14 for TV, and it works with Google Home and Matter. Pick it over the Cube if your home runs on Google rather than Alexa.

The Nvidia Shield TV Pro is the box for audio. It passes DTS:X, DTS-HD and TrueHD to a receiver and has two USB 3.0 ports, which the Cube can’t match. It has no HDR10+, no HDMI input and no hands-free Alexa, and it costs about ₹37,000 from Amazon US. If you have a receiver and a Blu-ray library, take the Shield. For an Alexa home or a Samsung TV with HDR10+, take the Cube.

All of them are ranked in my best streaming device in India guide.

Warranty and support

Amazon launched the Cube in India itself, so an Amazon.in order gets Indian support and Amazon’s normal return window. A unit bought from Amazon US keeps its warranty in the US. Fire OS updates arrive over the internet wherever the box came from.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Fire TV Cube price in India?

Amazon launched the third-generation Cube at ₹13,999, and it’s listed on Amazon.in. Sale prices move around, so check the listing. Importing one from Amazon US costs about ₹24,800 with duty.

Is the Fire TV Cube 3rd generation worth buying?

Yes, if you’ll use hands-free Alexa or plug a set-top box into its HDMI input. If you only want a better picture, a Fire TV Stick 4K Plus gives you the same formats for far less.

Fire TV Cube vs Fire TV Stick 4K: which should I buy?

The Fire TV Stick 4K Plus for most people. The Cube is more powerful and adds Ethernet, an HDMI input and hands-free Alexa, but reviewers found its picture and sound close to the cheaper stick’s.

Does the Fire TV Cube support Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Atmos?

Yes to all three, plus HDR10 and HLG, at up to 4K 60 fps. DTS and TrueHD aren’t listed. My Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Atmos guide compares every box.

Can the Fire TV Cube run Kodi?

Yes. It runs Fire OS, which allows sideloading, so Kodi, Stremio and Nuvio install on it. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select is the Amazon device that can’t do this.

Is the Fire TV Cube better than the Shield TV Pro?

For Alexa, connections and HDR10+, yes. For audio passthrough, USB storage and playing files from a hard drive, the Shield is better.

Verdict

Buy the Fire TV Cube if you’ll talk to it and plug a set-top box or console into it. Those two features are what you’re paying for, and nothing else at this price does both. If you only want better picture and sound, get the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and keep the change, or the Google TV Streamer if you’d rather be on Google TV.
