Kindle Scribe vs reMarkable Paper Pro: Which to Buy in India

Kindle Scribe vs reMarkable Paper Pro: Which to Buy in India

Quick answer: buy the Kindle Scribe if you read as much as you write, and the reMarkable Paper Pro if you mostly write. The Scribe lands at about ₹62,000 from Amazon US; the Paper Pro is about ₹65,000 on Amazon.in.

Kindle Scribe vs reMarkable Paper Pro is the comparison most people end up at when they shop for a big e-ink tablet, and in India it starts with how you buy. reMarkable India sells the Paper Pro on Amazon.in. The Scribe comes from Amazon US. Both routes are easy, and the prices land within a few thousand rupees of each other.

After that it’s about what you’ll do with it. I’ve used both. The Scribe is the better reader, with the Kindle store behind it. The Paper Pro is the better notebook, and it’s in colour. I also bring in the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft below, because that’s the Scribe that competes with the reMarkable on colour.

Writing and the pen

This is where the reMarkable wins. Stark Insider tested the Paper Pro against the Scribe Colorsoft, found it faster to write on, and rated its paper-like feel the best it has tested. The Marker Plus has an eraser end, and the whole interface is built around notebooks.

The Scribe is closer than it used to be. Amazon says writing is up to 40% faster than on the previous Scribe, and Expert Reviews measured the Colorsoft’s pen at around Amazon’s 12 ms claim. Both reviews found the Scribe’s note-taking software basic, though. Expert Reviews pointed out you can’t zoom into notebook pages. If notes are most of your day, that gap matters more than any spec.

Reading and books

The Scribe wins this one easily. You get the Kindle store, your existing Kindle library, highlights and reading position synced across devices, and Send to Kindle for PDFs and documents.

The Paper Pro has no bookstore. Books and PDFs go in through reMarkable’s app or cloud, and you manage the files yourself. That’s fine for work documents and papers. It’s a chore if you buy a novel a week.

Kindle Scribe Colorsoft vs reMarkable Paper Pro: the screens

Both have colour, and they do it differently. The Paper Pro’s 11.8-inch Canvas Color screen is a Gallery 3 panel at 229 ppi with around 20,000 colours. Colour looks richer, but it refreshes more slowly, and Stark Insider noticed ghosting on page changes.

The Scribe Colorsoft’s 11-inch Kaleido 3 screen is 300 ppi in black and white and 150 ppi in colour. Text is sharper, colour is softer, and large colour pages take a second or two to turn. The plain Scribe skips colour and is the cheapest of the three. If you mostly read black text, it’s all you need.

Software, sync and subscription

The Scribe’s notebooks have AI summaries and handwriting search, and export to Google Drive and OneDrive. The Colorsoft keeps colour when you export to PDF. There’s no subscription to think about.

The Paper Pro syncs through reMarkable’s cloud, and a Connect subscription adds extra features. The tablet works without it. Check what’s included in the plan before you pay, so you know which features you’re getting.

Which one for students and office work

For a student, I’d lean towards the Scribe. Textbooks and reading lists live in the Kindle store, lecture PDFs go across with Send to Kindle, and the AI summaries and handwriting search help when you’re revising from a term’s worth of handwritten notes. It’s also the cheaper of the two once it lands.

For meetings, planning and long-form writing, the Paper Pro is the nicer tool. The bigger 11.8-inch page, the better pen feel and colour for marking up drafts all suit someone who writes all day and reads mostly their own files.

Price in India and how you buy each

The Paper Pro is the easy one. reMarkable India sells the bundle with the Marker Plus on Amazon.in for about ₹65,000, delivered in a few days. The same bundle is $679 on Amazon US, about ₹64,200 at ₹94.5 to the dollar before duty, so buying it here is the cheaper route as well as the quicker one.

The Scribe comes from Amazon US. The 32 GB model is $499.99, which lands at about ₹62,000 with roughly 31% customs duty and IGST. The Scribe Colorsoft is $629.99 and lands at about ₹78,000. Amazon US adds the duty to the checkout total. You set an Indian delivery address, check that the product page ships to India, pay, finish the courier’s KYC link with your Aadhaar or PAN, and it arrives in about 10 to 15 days. If the US page says it can’t ship to your address, the Paper Pro on Amazon.in is the one to get. I’ve written up every step in how I buy gadgets from Amazon US.

reMarkable Paper Pro

The better notebook. Buy it if you write and sketch more than you read, or want an Indian seller.

It has the biggest screen of the three, the best writing feel in Stark Insider’s tests, and reMarkable India behind the Amazon.in listing. Skip it if you read a lot of ebooks. Bundles and the smaller Paper Pro Move are in my reMarkable Paper Pro India guide.

Kindle Scribe

The better reader. Buy it if you read as much as you write and already use Kindle.

It’s 400 g, 5.4 mm thick, has a front light and the whole Kindle store, and costs a little less than the Paper Pro once it lands. Get the Colorsoft only if you colour-code your notes. Both Scribes and their variants are in my Kindle Scribe India guide.
