Best E-ink Tablet in India: 7 Picks for Notes and Reading

Best E-ink Tablet in India: 7 Picks for Notes and Reading

Quick answer: the Kindle Scribe is the best e-ink tablet in India, at about ₹62,000 delivered from Amazon US. The reMarkable Paper Pro is the runner-up and the easiest buy, at about ₹65,000 on Amazon.in, and the Kobo Libra Colour is the budget colour reader at about ₹22,800. Also in this guide: Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, Boox Note Air6 C, Supernote Manta, Boox Palma 2 Pro, Kobo Elipsa 2E.

The best e-ink tablet in India depends on one question more than any spec: do you read more than you write, or write more than you read? An e-ink tablet is a paper notebook and a bookshelf in one slab. It has no glare and no backlight shining at your eyes, so you can read a 300-page PDF or fill a lecture’s worth of notes without the headache a phone or iPad gives you.

I’ve used all seven devices on this page. Only some are sold in India, so each pick says what it costs here and where I’d buy it. The Kindle Scribe, my top pick, comes from Amazon US. The reMarkable Paper Pro is the one you can order on Amazon.in from reMarkable India and have in a few days. Importing is less work than it sounds, and I’ve laid out the steps below.

1. Kindle Scribe

Best overall. A big Kindle you can write on, and the one I’d buy first.

Pros

  • 11-inch glare-free screen with a front light
  • The whole Kindle store, plus Send to Kindle and USB transfer
  • Notebooks with AI summaries and handwriting search
  • Google Drive and OneDrive support
  • Costs less than the Colorsoft and the reMarkable Paper Pro

Cons

  • Black and white only
  • Expert Reviews found the note-taking software basic
  • Bought from Amazon US, so delivery takes 10 to 15 days

The newest Scribe has an 11-inch glare-free screen with a front light, weighs 400 g and is 5.4 mm thick. Amazon says writing and page turns are up to 40% faster than on the previous Scribe. Notebooks come with AI summaries and handwriting search, and the 32 GB model holds far more books and PDFs than most people will ever load. The pen attaches magnetically and never needs charging.

What puts it at the top is reading. You get the Kindle store, your existing Kindle library, and Send to Kindle for PDFs and documents. Nothing else here combines that with an 11-inch writing surface. The 32 GB model is $499.99 on Amazon US, which is about ₹47,200 at ₹94.5 to the dollar. Add roughly 31% customs duty and IGST and it lands near ₹62,000. Amazon US adds the duty to the checkout total, so the number on that screen is what you pay. Variants, setup and the order steps are in my Kindle Scribe India guide.

2. reMarkable Paper Pro

The best e-ink tablet you can order on Amazon.in, and the best one to write on.

Pros

  • Sold on Amazon.in by reMarkable India
  • 11.8-inch colour screen, the largest here
  • Stark Insider rated its paper-like writing feel the best it has tested
  • Marker Plus pen in the bundle

Cons

  • No bookstore; you load your own files
  • Some sync features need a Connect subscription
  • Stark Insider noticed ghosting on page changes

If you don’t want to import anything, this is the one. reMarkable India sells the Paper Pro on Amazon.in as a bundle with the Marker Plus pen for about ₹65,000. The same bundle is $679 on Amazon US, about ₹64,200 before duty, so ordering it here is the cheaper route as well as the quicker one.

The 11.8-inch Canvas Color screen is a Gallery 3 panel at 229 ppi. Writing is what reMarkable does best, and I’d pick it over the Scribe for anyone who fills notebooks every day. Reading is where it gives ground: there’s no bookstore, so books and PDFs go in through the app or cloud. I’ve covered the bundles in my reMarkable Paper Pro India guide, and put it head to head with my top pick in Kindle Scribe vs reMarkable Paper Pro.

3. Kindle Scribe Colorsoft

Best with colour. The Scribe with a colour layer, for people who colour-code everything.

Pros

  • Colour highlights and annotations, 10 pen colours and 5 highlighter colours
  • Sharp 300 ppi text in black and white
  • Pen in the box, no charging
  • Colour survives export to PDF, per Stark Insider

Cons

  • Colour is soft at 150 ppi
  • No water resistance
  • Costs about ₹16,000 more than the plain Scribe after duty

This is the same 11-inch idea with a Kaleido 3 colour screen: 300 ppi in black and white and 150 ppi in colour. It has a 2 GHz quad-core chip, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1 and USB-C, and comes in 32 GB or 64 GB. Expert Reviews measured the pen at around Amazon’s 12 ms claim. Stark Insider gave it 4.5 out of 5, called it the best Kindle Amazon has made, and also said it’s hard to justify at full price.

The 32 GB model is $629.99 on Amazon US, which lands at about ₹78,000 with duty. Colour on e-ink is pastel, so it’s best for highlights, diagrams and comics rather than photos. If you don’t already highlight in four colours on paper, buy the plain Scribe. Both are covered in my Kindle Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft guide.

4. Boox Note Air6 C

Best for Android apps. Install Kindle, Kobo and anything else from the Play Store.

Pros

  • Runs Android, so you keep the reading apps you already use
  • 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 colour screen with 4,096 colours
  • 6 GB RAM, 64 GB storage and a microSD slot
  • Pen3 in the box

Cons

  • Android on e-ink needs tuning, app by app
  • Boox’s speed claims haven’t been tested independently yet
  • Keyboard cover sold separately

A Boox is an Android tablet with an e-ink screen. That’s the whole reason to choose one over a Kindle: Kindle, Kobo and your library’s app all sit on one device. The Air6 C has a 3,700 mAh battery and a new octa-core chip, and Boox claims page turns are up to 40% faster than before. Its new software adds Dual Notes, which shows two documents side by side.

It’s $579.99 on Amazon US, where Boox runs its own store, and that comes to about ₹72,000 with duty. Expect to set the refresh mode for each app you use. The smaller Go Color 7 and the rest of the range are in my Boox tablets India guide.

5. Supernote Manta

Best pen-first notebook. Built for writing and almost nothing else.

Pros

  • 10.7-inch flexible E Ink screen at 1920 x 2560
  • Replaceable 3,600 mAh battery
  • Two-year warranty from Supernote
  • Not tied to any store or subscription

Cons

  • No front light
  • Pen sold separately
  • Black and white only

The Manta is the plainest device here, and that’s the appeal. It has 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and a screen made for handwriting. There’s no bookstore and no app store pulling you away from the page. It shows PDFs and books you load, but it’s a notebook first.

It’s $505 on Supernote’s own store, about ₹47,700, and Supernote ships internationally. Duty is charged on arrival at the same roughly 31%, so plan for about ₹62,500 in all. Skip it if you read in bed, because there’s no front light. Ordering steps are in my Supernote India guide.

6. Boox Palma 2 Pro

Best pocket-sized. A phone-shaped e-ink screen for reading on the metro.

Pros

  • 6.13-inch Kaleido 3 colour screen that fits a jacket pocket
  • Android 15 with the Play Store
  • Snapdragon 750G, 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage
  • 5G data, GPS and a hybrid microSD or SIM slot

Cons

  • The Gadgeteer found pen latency too high for fast handwriting
  • Colour looks dim with the front light off
  • Too small for A4 PDFs

The Palma 2 Pro is the e-ink device I’d carry instead of a book. It runs Android 15, so the Kindle and Kobo apps work, and it has 5G for data (it isn’t certified for voice calls). It supports the InkSense Plus stylus, sold separately, which is fine for quick notes but not for long writing sessions.

It’s about ₹55,000 on Amazon.in. Amazon US lists it at $399.99, which comes to about ₹49,500 with duty, so compare both totals before you pay. Boox has also announced a cheaper black-and-white Palma 3. Both are in my Boox Palma India guide.

7. Kobo Elipsa 2E

Best for ePub and library books. A big notebook for readers who don’t use Kindle.

Pros

  • 10.3-inch glare-free screen with ComfortLight PRO
  • Kobo Stylus 2 in the box
  • Reads ePub and the Kobo store

Cons

  • Black and white only
  • Fewer note-taking extras than the Scribe
  • Older design than the rest of this list

The Elipsa 2E is for people whose books aren’t in Amazon’s store. It reads ePub files from anywhere, works with the Kobo store, and lets you write in the margins with the stylus that comes in the box. The software is simpler than a Boox, which some people will prefer.

Amazon.in has a page for it, and Amazon US lists it at $399.99, about ₹49,500 with duty. If you mainly read Kindle books, the Scribe is the better buy for about ₹12,000 more.

Buying Guide

Read first or write first?

If most of your time goes on books, you don’t need any of the big tablets above. A 7-inch colour reader costs a third as much. The Kobo Libra Colour is my budget pick: about ₹22,800 on Amazon.in, sold by Kobo India, waterproof, with page-turn buttons and support for the Kobo Stylus 2. The Kindle Colorsoft is Amazon’s equivalent and has to come from Amazon US. I’ve compared the two in my Kindle Colorsoft India guide. If you write and mark up PDFs every day, pay for an 11-inch screen.

The best e-ink tablet for note taking in India

For pure note taking, the reMarkable Paper Pro has the best writing feel, and the Supernote Manta is the most focused. The Kindle Scribe is the better all-rounder because it reads so well, but its notebook software is simpler. If you sketch more than you write, a pen display might suit you better than e-ink; my drawing tablet picks cover those.

Do you need colour?

Colour e-ink is muted. It works well for highlighting, charts, diagrams and comic covers, and poorly for photos. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft shows colour at 150 ppi, so fine colour detail looks soft, while black text stays sharp at 300 ppi. The reMarkable Paper Pro’s Gallery 3 screen shows richer colour but refreshes more slowly. If you only highlight in one shade, save the money.

Pen and front light

Check what’s in the box. The Kindle Scribe, Scribe Colorsoft, reMarkable bundle, Note Air6 C and Elipsa 2E all include a pen. The Manta and the Palma 2 Pro don’t. Every device here has a front light except the Manta, and that’s the one I’d skip if you read at night.

Android or a closed system

Kindle, reMarkable, Supernote and Kobo each run their own software. It’s simple and it works the day you open the box. Boox runs Android, so you get every reading app but spend time tuning refresh modes. If you want a full colour screen, apps and a keyboard as well, a convertible laptop with a stylus is the better tool.

Amazon.in or Amazon US

Four devices in this guide have an Amazon.in page: the reMarkable Paper Pro, the Boox Palma 2 Pro, the Kobo Elipsa 2E and the Kobo Libra Colour. I’d buy those there. For the rest, I order from Amazon US. Set your Indian address, check that the product page ships to India, and the checkout total includes shipping and duty. The courier sends a KYC link once the parcel lands, and it reaches you in about 10 to 15 days. The full process is in how I buy gadgets from Amazon US, and the duty maths is in my customs duty guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best e-ink tablet in India?

The Kindle Scribe, at about ₹62,000 from Amazon US. If you’d rather buy on Amazon.in, get the reMarkable Paper Pro at about ₹65,000.

Which is the best e-reader in India for notes?

For notes and reading together, the Kindle Scribe. For notes above everything, the reMarkable Paper Pro. On a smaller budget, the Kobo Libra Colour supports the Kobo Stylus 2 for short notes on a 7-inch screen.

Which e-ink tablet with a pen can I buy on Amazon.in?

The reMarkable Paper Pro, sold by reMarkable India with the Marker Plus pen in the bundle. The Boox Palma 2 Pro and Kobo Libra Colour are also on Amazon.in, with their pens sold separately.

Is the Kindle Scribe sold in India?

Amazon hasn’t launched it in India, so you order it from Amazon US. It works with your Kindle account like any other Kindle.

What is the cheapest e-ink tablet worth buying in India?

The Kobo Libra Colour at about ₹22,800 is the cheapest one I’d buy with colour and pen support. If you only read and don’t need a pen, the Kindle Paperwhite is about ₹21,000 on Amazon.in.

Are e-ink tablets better than a normal tablet?

For reading and handwriting, yes: no glare and no backlight to tire your eyes. For video, apps and games, no. An e-ink tablet does a few things very well and everything else badly.

Verdict

Buy the Kindle Scribe if you read and write in equal measure and are happy to order from Amazon US. Buy the reMarkable Paper Pro if you mostly write, or just want it delivered from Amazon.in in a few days. Pick the Scribe Colorsoft only if colour is part of how you work, a Boox if you need Android apps, and the Supernote Manta if the pen is all you care about. If you only read, the Kobo Libra Colour costs a fraction of any of them.
